five minutes with: Daydream Lily

Liss Winnel is Daydream Lily, one of our favourite blogs. We caught up with Liss this month to chat about life as a blogger.

SS: Tell us about your blog?

L: I find it hard to put my blog in a certain category it’s a bit of a collection of all the things I love and what is inspiring me right now. I post about fashion, vintage, art, photography and handmade all with a dreamy romantic aesthetic.

SS: Where are you based?
L:
I just recently relocated from Melbourne to the Gold Coast.

SS: Who are your style icons?
L:
Some women who absolutely inspire me creatively would be Bjork, Bat For Lashes and Abbie Cornish.

SS: How would you describe your personal style?
L:
I love beautiful dresses with leggings and flat or a simple outfit dressed up with some beautiful jewellery. I own way too much jewellery. I also really love soft flowy fabrics.

SS: Do you plan your outfits in advance or just throw things together on the day?
L:
I usually just put something together based on what I feel like on the day. If I have a special day coming up I might think ahead about what I want to wear. Otherwise I like playing around with the pieces in my wardrobe and finding new ways to style them.

SS: tell us about your outfit – why you chose what you did? What was your inspiration, where would you wear this?
L:
This outfit was styled around my favourite butter london orange nail polish. It’s the perfect autumn shade of burnt orange. I also love my Mums handmade necklace from the 80s it has such a quirky Australiana feel. I styled an outfit around these elements. I spent the day showing my brother around the Gold Coast so also went for something comfortable.

SS: What’s your favourite thing about Secret Squirrel?

L: The soft fabrics and wearable cuts. I love the pants and already own the Stowaway pants in jungle from last season.

SS: What are your top must haves for surviving winter for AUS and spring for the US?
L:
Now that I live on the Gold Coast my wardrobe has changed so much. I’m no longer needing three layers to keep warm over winter! My top pieces this winter are vintage midi skirts, chunky knits and crochet tops. Also love harem style pants and my ankle boots.

SS: What is the best part about being a blogger?

L: It seems a cliche but I have to say the friendships I’ve formed and the people I’ve been able to meet through blogging. It’s also great to have a place where I can be creative and share all the things I love.

SS: What has been your blogger career high?
L:
Being in Frankie was a dream come true! Frankie is such an inspiration and part of what started my blogging, so to be in the mag really was amazing. Also doing the collaboration with Element was a blogging career high, working with the designers and seeing your creations come to life is surreal.
