it’s friday!
it’s friday and we’re having a spring / summer clean up of the secret squirrel studio. our greatest hurdle has been moving our collection of national geographic magazines from one place to another (no it’s not procrastination!). what’s the one thing you can’t help but hoard?

one of those things: bags
Even though I’m more of a shoes girl, there’s nothing like great bag to make you feel like hot stuff.

botanica: flower fairies
I remember growing up with Cecily Mary Barker’s alphabet of flower fairy drawings, and when I found them again sifting through the internet it brought back all these beautiful memories of how special they used to be to my sister and I when we were tiny babies.
I think they’re probably the reason I spent a good deal of time wearing tutus back then and were a good way to start a life long love of plants and flowers.

miss december
It’s a double barrel “Miss” this month with Boo and Pip up to their usual nonsense- this time fighting over who gets to sleep in the box of sampling fabric in the office.
If only my days were spent like this, life would be so much easier.

in the vase: spruce
A bunch of spruce in a vase is such a nice way to celebrate Christmas without committing to a whole tree in the living room.
After the decorations, the best thing about it is the sprucey smell it brings into the house- so festive!
Merry Christmas to all our fans, here’s cheers to another year done well x

styled by: dominique brammah
Earlier in the month we had a visitor to our studio, the lovely Dominique Brammah. Today we are sharing with you a little photo shoot Dominique did with some of her favourite bloggers and favourite secret squirrel pieces too. Keep reading to find out a little more about Dominique and her shoot ‘Feels Like Home’
Who are you and what do you do?
I am Dominique Brammah and most days I am a grown-up architect and other days I play freelance interior designer & architect, stylist, florist, blogger, stationary designer and general crafter. I am currently in the process of dreaming/working up a multidisciplinary creative firm called ‘Hunter Harmony’ so I can do all of my loves and call it a job.
What’s the story/inspiration behind the ‘Feels Like Home’ shoot you’ve just done?
The inspiration behind this shoot was dreamt up by the incomprehensibly brilliant Luisa Brimble of Serendipity Corner who is a photographer, writer and graphic designer who famously has a ‘happy dance’ which comes out at every shoot. She has recently joined the ‘Kinfolk’ Magazine a growing community of creative types with a shared interest in small gatherings and this shoot was based on a very ‘Kinfolk’ aesthetic – simple, uncomplicated and less contrived. Kinfolk is the marriage of the magazine’s appreciation for art and design and their love for spending time with family and friends.
The idea for the collaboration photoshoot was to capture 3 prominent young and incredibly bright fashion bloggers Sara Donaldson of Harper and Harley, Margaret Zhang of Shine by Three (/) & Emma Lucey of Spin Dizzy Fall at an intimate brunch celebrating the importance of time spent together and their shared passion for fashion away from its usual glitz and glamour.
How did you start doing these kinds of projects?
Luisa Brimble talked me into it. She has a knack of convincing people they can do anything. This is the second shoot we have collaborated on together and with her support, encouragement and enthusiasm for collaborative creative endeavours I think there will be many more. I also think that design and creativity is always amplified by a collaborative process, and should be practiced with a multidisciplinary approach -a photographer who is also a writer, an interior design who also paints etc. It broadens the mind and the horizon and inevitably enriches personal design practice in absolutely everything.

Favourite outfit from the shoot?
I think Margaret looked effortlessly fabulous in spotty Gorman pants & Secret Squirrel’s Hidcote shirt. Soft, simple and relaxed. Sara was particularly taken by the Foxglove dress and it shot beautifully.
5 things you’re into right now:

1. A Cambridge Satchel in neon pink who arrived on my doorstep last week (an early Christmas present to myself)
2. Packing design for Fogel a hosiery brand founded in Zurich in 1921 and making legwear cool again in 2011+
3. Vegetarian wontons & dumplings at Din Tai Fung at The Star
4. Hanging baskets of red flowers
5. Sexy eclectic bathrooms
Three blogs you check every day?
The Design Files , DESIGNLOVEFEST & Pinterest
What are your top five albums/ artists you’ll be listening to this summer?
Little Dragon (the back catalogue – ‘Self titled’ 2007 & ‘Machine Dreams’ 2009)
Active Child (in preparation for Laneway Festival)
A mixtape made by my best friend freezing his behind off in London called ‘Tiny Summer’
Vivaldi cello sonatas because I should learn how I am meant to sound if I ever practiced
Music From the O.C. Mix 3: Have a Very Merry Chrismukkah
What is your favourite hot weather/summer picnic drink?
This year I was given a bottle Dom Benedictine (a so called ‘medicinal’ liqueur) from work neighbour so I will be enjoying one or a few Mojito Royales (with Prosecco substituting soda) this summer.
When we were growing up our mothers used to buy us an outfit especially for Christmas and we still get very nostalgic about it. Do you have a special Christms outfit planned for this year and if so please describe!

The perfect white cotton lace frock with Gorman Paper Planes heels & a Gypsy Garland wrap in red by my best friend Rochelle at Summerblossom, a bright fuschia lip and neon pink toes.

We’ve got something fun for you to do over the Christmas/New Year break! Doesn’t this little project look beautiful and you just don’t know what you will end up with.
Take a look over at Miles of Light to learn how to dye some fabric with nothing but some flowers from your garden and some water, We’d love to see how you go!
